Dr. David Asks...
Medical Services at Our Humble Practice
Family Medical Practice
In our office, you may get family medical care that does not normally require hospitalization. General medical care includes care for all stages of life and health. We provide care for patients with new (acute/urgent) or old (chronic) illnesses. We can help you with the diagnosis and treatment of your problems, routine check-ups, health-risk check-ups, screening tests, and counseling for a healthy lifestyle and a better quality of life. We have access to laboratory services commonly needed as a part of your care as well. A real strength of the care provided at our office is our ability to bring multiple styles and choices of care to match your needs and health goals in one location. While certainly there are conditions that require medication, there are often complementary types of care that may help your condition quicker and perhaps with less medicine.
Pediatric Visits
Colds, flu, ear infections, sprains, and falls. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, David can take care of these issues for your whole family.
Medically Managed Weight Loss
It is no surprise to most people that being over-weight can bring on a whole host of other health problems such as diabetes and heart problems. Now we have a broader choice of options to offer those challenged with weight loss. Often times, people don't realize the full impact that being over-weight has on their body. We have seen many health conditions improve when excess weight is lost, such as diabetes, heart issues, cholesterol levels, joint pain, fibromyalgia and other chronic pain problems, to name just a few.
STAY TUNED! We are actively researching the best types and services of medical care to offer. As we carry on, you will likely see more diverse services added.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions adapted from the American College of Nurse Practitioners (http://www.wellesley.edu/Health/Information/FAQ_about_NPs_May06.pdf)
1. Who are Nurse Practitioners?
Nurse practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who are prepared, through advanced education and clinical training, to provide a wide range of preventive and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. NPs take health histories and provide complete physical examinations; diagnose and treat many common acute and chronic problems; interpret laboratory results and X-rays; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching and supportive counseling with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance; and refer patients to other health professionals as needed. NPs are authorized to practice across the nation and have prescriptive privileges, of varying degrees, in 49 states.
2. How cost-effective are nurse practitioners?
Very. NPs provide high-quality, cost-effective care. One study compared the costs of care for two primary care problems and found that the cost of care given by NPs was 20% less than the cost of care given by physicians.
3. How can NPs help with access to care?
NPs provide services for the diagnosis, treatment and management of disease as well as illness prevention and health maintenance. Numerous studies conclude that nurse practitioners perform as well as physicians in their specialty area of practice, in patient diagnosis, management of specific diseases and patient outcomes. NPs have improved access to and affordability of health care by consistently offering high quality and cost- effective services. Nurse practitioners should be active partners and providers of health care as they insure delivery of quality health care in a cost-effective manner.
